No More DistroKid For Us👎 SYNC1 SUPERGROUP
DistroKid has officially confirmed it is removing tracks from streaming services as a direct consequence of a multi-billion dollar lawsuit filed against it by Universal Music Group (UMG). The Lawsuit Core Allegations UMG—alongside its labels Capitol Records and Capitol CMG—filed a 52-page lawsuit in mid-September 2026. The lawsuit accuses DistroKid of "illegal, deceptive, and unlawful practices". • The "AI Slop Pipeline": UMG claims DistroKid is flooding streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music with mass-uploaded, bot-generated, and undisclosed AI content passed off as human-made music. To illustrate, the suit points to an account that uploaded 4,562 tracks in just 12 months. • Massive Copyright Infringement: The label alleges that DistroKid has distributed thousands of unauthorized remixes, speed-altered tracks, or direct copies of UMG's proprietary recordings. UMG says its initial investigation flagged nearly 2,000 infringing tracks. • Damages Sought: UMG is seeking $150,000 per infringed work, bringing the theoretical maximum penalty past $9 billion. The Song Deletions & Independent Artist "Collateral Damage" While DistroKid’s VP of Artist Services, Amanda Ferri, told The Verge that only a "very small number" of recordings have been taken down, independent musicians are reporting a massive wave of sudden wipes. Independent artists claim their entire catalogs, albums, and singles are vanishing from streaming platforms and their DistroKid dashboards without warning. DistroKid maintains it is acting in response to UMG's specific copyright claims, but many human creators report their deleted music contained no samples, no covers, and no AI components. In addition to takedowns, artists have complained of delayed royalty payments, frozen withdrawals, and poor communication from customer support. Thank the gods that we only tried one song with DistroKid! We were not impressed. And we wouldn't recommend them to our enemies! Stay tuned to SYNC One for further A.I. lawsuit updates
