when we still spoke

V4.5-ALL

**WHEN WE STILL SPOKE** Before the age of iron kings and banners stained with blood, Before the priests and conquerors decided what was good, There stood two thrones upon the dawn where all creation grew, One forged of light, one forged of dark, and both their duties knew. For darkness was not hatred then, nor light a flawless flame, Each understood the other's work and neither sought dominion's name. When virtue strayed toward pride and power, blinded by applause, The shadows came to humble it and remind it of its flaws. And when the dark became too cruel, consumed by wrath and greed, The light would strike its own as well and answer every deed. Neither side protected sin simply because it wore their face, Both punished those who crossed the line and shattered sacred grace. The wicked feared the darkness most, for darkness knew their hearts, And goodness feared the light as well when arrogance would start. Together they maintained the scales that held the world upright, One measured consequence and truth, the other hope and light. But mankind looked upon the pair and could not understand, How opposites could stand as one instead of taking sides in hand. They painted darkness into evil, made all light divine, As if the world could somehow live with only half its spine. The stories changed, the lessons warped, the balance came undone, And soon the war of black and white had finally begun. The light was told to never judge the faults within its own, While darkness gathered every crime humanity disowned. The scales grew bent, the order cracked, the ancient covenant died, And both sides watched in silent grief as wisdom was denied. Now every soul cries out for peace while feeding endless war, Demanding justice for themselves but vengeance for the poor. The heavens mourn what once had been before the lines were drawn, When night and day still shared the sky and greeted every dawn. For opposite was never meant to mean eternal foe, And both once knew a sacred truth we've long forgotten now: That mercy without consequence will slowly lose its way, And judgment without love becomes a tyrant's blade one day. So somewhere past remembered time where ancient rivers run, The light and dark still wait to see if we recall they once were one.
