[Intro] "We're all mad here ... Here ... Here .. we're all mad here .... [Verse] I step through the door. In front of me, a tree grows fast. A branch bends heavily downward, I notice a cat in it, that seems to be grinning. “Where should I go?” I ask. The cat stares at me. “Where do you really want to go?” I don’t know what to say. So she fades into the branches, until only her grin hangs in the air. I search the tree for her. The leaves wave at me, and it makes me dizzy. I have to blink—and there she is again, the cat. [Chorus] We had a stroll down the rabbit hole, The rabbit hole, the rabbit hole, On a path home down the rabbit hole, find our damn home in the rabbit hole, We had a stroll down the rabbit hole, The rabbit hole, the rabbit hole, On a path home down the rabbit hole, find our damn home in the rabbit hole. [Verse2] “Do you want to play hide and seek?” “No, stay here!” She grins. “Look more closely!” Between the leaves I see doors, that disappear again, as soon as I walk toward them. When I realize that, I wake up. (really?) The cat is strikingly clear. I hear her purring: “Lost (and) Found!” I think of the mushroom. And I’m standing right under one. I try a piece of it. And immediately fall asleep again. The grin does not pity me. [Outro] The cat’s grin hangs before my eyes. A curl of smoke drifts across it, lingering. I follow the trail and see the Caterpillar, smoking from inside the mushroom.
