Build the Storms

V6

The tide remembers ash before the dawn, where timber smolders in the salty air. The archipelago counts what is gone: a blackened hull, a silent passenger, the thirty-fifth brought gently to the sand beneath a sky too wide for grief to fill. A rescuer uncurls a waterlogged hand, and the ancient, heavy sea grows cold and still. Here, disaster is an iron, wooden thing— smoke in the lungs, the sudden leap of heat, the fragile craft that failed its journeying, the mortal limits where the currents meet. Half a world away, in quiet rooms, another fire is measured in the dark. A builder pauses where the logic blooms and pleads for brakes before the wider spark. Not salt or timber, but the creeping weight of minds constructed faster than our grace— a quiet fear of what we cultivate running too swiftly to maintain the pace. We mourn the wooden vessel pulled apart, the sudden wreck, the lives we could not keep, while trembling at the engines we restart, inventing tides that pull too fierce and deep. Between the smoldering sea and future wire, the lesson stays identical and plain: we race to light and cannot quench the fire, and build the very storms we can't restrain.
