[Verse 1] There was a fire between us A warmth that never died Through all the years we walked together You stayed close by my side One touch could say it What words could never do Every breath, every heartbeat Kept pulling me to you [Pre-Chorus] We were more than two companions More than husband, more than wife Something wild and tender Ran right underneath our life [Chorus] There was fire between us (there was fire between us) There was fire between us And I still feel the flame (Uuuhh I feel the flame !) You were the one I wanted (the one I wanted) You were the one I wanted And desire still knows your name [Verse 2] A spark behind your eyes A hunger in your hand The quiet joy of being wanted The kind I understand Time could never take it Nor the wrinkles, nor the years You were still the woman I desired The one who drew my tears (I needed you, I wanted you) (I still do) [Pre-Chorus] We held each other close at night Not needing to explain Two bodies carrying one love Two hearts beating just the same [Chorus] There was fire between us (there was fire between us) There was fire between us And I still feel the flame You were the one I wanted (the one I wanted) You were the one I wanted And desire still knows your name [Bridge] I miss that closeness now More than words can ever say The warmth of you beside me The way you took my breath away I will not call it gentle Quiet, safe, and tame It had a heartbeat, it had hunger It had desire, it had flame [Final Chorus] There was fire between us (there was fire between us) There was fire between us And I still feel the flame Arlette, I wanted you still (Arlette, I wanted you still) Arlette, I wanted you still And love still burns the same There was tenderness in our bodies (fire between us) There was fire between our souls (and I still feel the flame)
