[Spoken Narrative Intro] [Female Low Voice - Spoken Narrator] [Slow intimate storytelling, mysterious but warm, no singing] By day, the world belongs to humanity. People work, study, laugh, and live beneath the sun, never knowing what waits beyond the daylight. For deep within the forests, ancient vampire strongholds awaken after dusk. They live by night and endure forever, their immortality sustained by blood. But vampires learned to keep to themselves, avoiding human blood lest their secret be exposed. For humans have holy stakes, decapitation, and crucifixes, and an alarming lack of appreciation for the undead. Werewolves walk among humans by day, hiding their true nature beneath ordinary faces. At night, they may hunt humans and beasts alike, but they too keep their secrets out of sight, lest silver bullets and blades bring their final bite. And so, beneath ordinary life, vampires and werewolves wage a secret war for territory, each guarding the darkness beneath the moonlight, while humanity remains almost completely unaware. [Verse 1] [Esther - Young Female Soprano] [Gentle curious delivery, indie-folk phrasing over acoustic guitar] I wanna know if vampires exist Do they live so long Do they live so strong Maybe I can tell If I study more Maybe I can know Who they might be Maybe I’ll meet one Under moonlight [Light playful vocal lift on final line] [Chorus] [Esther and Brook - Young Female Soprano + Young Male Tenor] [Warm duet, easy-listening folk harmony, acoustic guitar with ethereal piano] ’Cause moonlight calls tonight Drawing me to see them What could be there Maybe One day I might meet them And discover who they are Maybe feel their hearts Maybe learn their lives Oh, the night’s enticing [Verse 2] [Brook - Young Male Tenor] [Playful tutor-like delivery, rhythmic acoustic guitar, subtle piano] I teach you math tonight I teach you science tonight You can be so smart You can be so smart [Brook - slightly shy, affectionate] And you look so cute When you ask me about the creatures That come out at night Under moonlight [Brook - nerdy excitement, building rhythm] And if blood is life I wanna know its chemistry Its biology And hematology Could I become them? Learn the secrets of their hearts? [Soft laugh in delivery] The heart keeps pumping And maybe that’s love [Chorus 2] [Esther and Brook - Young Female Soprano + Young Male Tenor] [Duet, harmonizing closely, gradually more playful] ’Cause moonlight calls tonight Maybe we can go and find them Maybe hear them sigh Tell us we’ve been wrong Tell us we’ve been strong We’ve been all the way We’ve been all the way Moonlight calls tonight Maybe we’ll discover something You tell me it’s just right Maybe it’s enticing [Bridge] [Esther - Young Female Soprano] [Soft intimate acoustic guitar, ethereal piano answering each phrase] Maybe for Halloween I should find a dance partner tonight [Brook - Young Male Tenor] [Playful, nervous, understated] Maybe your tutor could Help you study dancing instead [Esther - Young Female Soprano] [Teasing] My tutor knows equations But does he know how to dance? [Brook - Young Male Tenor] [Funny, slightly flustered] I know the basic steps I think… I think I have a chance [Esther and Brook] [Gentle duet, smiling vocal delivery] And if the moon is shining We’ll wonder what’s alive Perhaps we’ll find the creatures Who only come at night [Outro] [Esther and Brook - Duet] [Warm folk harmony, acoustic guitar fingerpicking, ethereal piano, gradually becoming dreamy] Esther: Would you ask me to the ball? Brook: Would you say that you would go? Esther: If you promise not to teach me Calculus while dancing slow Brook: If you promise not to laugh If I step upon your feet Esther: I’ll pretend I never saw it Brook: Then perhaps we’ll call it even [Esther and Brook] [Soft overlapping duet, curious and romantic] We’ll talk about the moon We’ll talk about the night We’ll wonder where the vampires Disappear before the light We’ll talk about the wolves That wander through the day And all the secret creatures That hide themselves away [Esther - softly] Maybe there are vampires… [Brook - softly] Maybe there are wolves… [Esther and Brook] [Close harmony, gentle final cadence] Maybe there are secrets That nobody else knows [Female Low Voice - Spoken, mysterious] And somewhere beyond the town, beneath the pale moon, the secret war continues…
