When Nobody's Watching

V6

[Intro] Yeah... No church, no preacher, no threat, no prize Take away the rules, what's left inside? If nobody's watching, what would you choose? That's the question I'm asking you. [Verse 1] You say you're good 'cause you follow the Lord, But if God disappeared, would you still know the score? Would you tell the truth if nobody could know? Would you help somebody if there wasn't a reward? Would you show mercy without heaven to gain? Would you reject cruelty without fearing the flame? If punishment's the reason you stay in the line, Are you choosing what's good, or just scared of the divine? You say, “God defines what's good,” that's your position, But I'm questioning the source of your conviction. If morality disappears when the threats disappear, Was it really your conscience—or conditioned by fear? [Hook] Take away the threat, take away the prize, Take away the preacher, take away the eyes. If the mask comes off and your morals collapse, Was it really your character, or following facts? I'm not attacking faith, I'm questioning the claim: Are you doing what's right, or just fearing the flame? [Verse 2] You say without God people have no reason to care, But human compassion exists everywhere. People help strangers without asking for gold, Stand beside the broken when the story gets cold. No scripture in their hands, no heaven to earn, Just empathy telling them somebody's hurt. A conscience can grow through reflection and reason, Change with new knowledge, adapt with the seasons. Don't reduce morality to something divine, Like kindness can't exist unless it's written in lines. People can question, learn, and admit when they're wrong, Build better principles as they're moving along. [Pre-Hook] And here's the question that cuts through the noise: If someone gave the order, would you still have a choice? If something felt cruel but they called it divine, Would you trust your conscience or silence your mind? [Hook] Take away the threat, take away the prize, Take away the preacher, take away the eyes. If the mask comes off and your morals collapse, Was it really your character, or following facts? I'm not attacking faith, I'm questioning the claim: Are you doing what's right, or just fearing the flame? [Verse 3] If you only call it good 'cause somebody said so, Are you following morality or just following orders? Outsourcing your conscience can make life convenient, No difficult questions, just “believe it, repeat it.” But freedom means thinking when answers aren't clear, Owning your choices without hiding behind fear. Faith can inspire you, that's perfectly true, But your moral character still belongs to you. Don't tell me disbelief automatically makes people cruel, That's a stereotype and an outdated rule. People without religion still care and defend, Still fight for justice, still show up for friends. [Bridge] Take away the label, Take away the fear. Take away the promise That paradise is near. Take away the audience, Take away the praise. When nobody's watching, What choices will you make? [Verse 4] I'm not saying Christians can't genuinely care, That's way too simple, and honestly unfair. There are people with faith who give all they can, Feed their communities and reach out a hand. My question is deeper than “religion is bad,” I'm asking what makes your morality yours, not what you've been handed. If faith makes you kinder, then live by that light, But don't claim your religion invented what's right. You can love what you believe without putting others below, You can hold your convictions and still let people grow. [Final Hook] Take away the threat, take away the prize, Take away the preacher, take away the eyes. If heaven disappeared and the punishment ceased, Would your compassion survive? Would your conscience still speak? When all of the masks and the promises fall, Character remains when there's nobody to call. [Outro] No preacher. No threat. No reward. No audience. Just you. And the choices you make When nobody tells you Who you're supposed to be.
