neon drips down the windows like tired rain everyone walking fast like they’re late for something they don’t want the train doors open no one looks at anyone we all pretend we belong to somewhere else a siren passes and for a second the whole street feels alive then it forgets again I sit in a crowded place and somehow it echoes there’s a man laughing too loud into his phone like he’s trying to convince himself the buildings stack up like unsent messages all those windows all those lives I’ll never touch I keep checking my reflection in glass just to make sure I’m still here someone’s music leaks through thin walls I memorize their sadness without knowing their name midnight smells like burnt food and wet concrete and something almost human I walk past a hundred stories none of them pause for me even the stars don’t visit here they got replaced with flickering signs I try to disappear into the crowd but the crowd doesn’t notice just keeps moving like a thought that forgot me halfway through
