[Verse 1] My boots got mud on the toes From the gate to the tall grass rows Sun hit hard on the open field You pulled me in like a spinning wheel Drums came loud from the hill Hands went up, the whole place still Your name was lost in the roar Then the first chord shook the floor [Pre-Chorus] And the sky went gold We lost control When the lights went up I knew I’d never get enough [Chorus] Wild in the open (wild in the open) We were wild in the open (wild in the open) Hands to the sky And we never came down Wild in the open (wild in the open) We were wild in the open (wild in the open) You and I In the whole loud crowd [Verse 2] There was paint on your cheek like rain Barefoot kids in the sprinkler spray A banner flapping off the fence And your laugh cut through the whole defense I bought two drinks and a plastic crown You sang the hook and spun me around Grass in our hair, sunburned skin Told me one day we’d do it again [Pre-Chorus] And the sky went gold We lost control When the bass came back It pulled us right off track [Chorus] Wild in the open (wild in the open) We were wild in the open (wild in the open) Hands to the sky And we never came down Wild in the open (wild in the open) We were wild in the open (wild in the open) You and I In the whole loud crowd [Bridge] When the rain came fast We just laughed Squeezed in close At the edge of the mud Every light in the air Pulled us there Like the night itself Was made of us [Final Chorus] Wild in the open (wild in the open) We were wild in the open (wild in the open) Hands to the sky And we never came down Wild in the open (wild in the open) We were wild in the open (wild in the open) You and I In the whole loud crowd Wild in the open (wild in the open) We were wild in the open (wild in the open) Mud on my boots And your hand in mine
