Fake eyelashes that bat like butterfly wings, fake breasts, fake butts, inflated lips, tighter, smoother, higher, bigger— but is any of it real? Does any of it make you more lovable? We were told as little girls to compete with each other for attention. The prize was never wisdom or kindness — it was the crown of “most beautiful.” And so the game began: push-up bras, Spanx, sculpting creams, plastic surgery as a rite of passage. We’re promised admiration, but we are handed insecurity. We’re told this is empowerment, but it is just another cage, shaped like an hourglass. Where does it end? When do we stop carving ourselves into someone else’s definition of beauty? When do we start celebrating the curve of a laugh, the strength in a scar, the magic in being unmistakably yourself? Where are the real women— the ones who wear their years like a crown, who are unedited and unapologetic? And where is the society that dares to love each person for their unique, once-in-a-lifetime beauty? Because that beauty cannot be bought, cannot be built, and will never, ever go out of style.
