When the bell rings I have a mission to do Race into the hall, an incorrigible fool Only have 8 minutes before the next bell rings but I need to feel the joy your smile will bring My next class is on the other side of the school The teacher always enforces the tardiness rules but I know where you are and where you’re going to be I just have to make it through this maze in one piece Dash up the stairs taking two at a time Dodge open lockers and cafeteria lines No time to waste before the bell’s next chime There’s no way I can concentrate on school when my mind is floating in dreams of you That kiss that we shared the sun’s glow in your hair the promise that we’ll see each other soon So while the teacher’s droning on about the Pythagorean rule I’m making plans to intercept you As I reach the eastern corridor I know you’ll soon come round that corner So I spin behind a group of friends forcing myself to catch my breath but I could never slow the beat of my heart You’re chatting with a friend as you come into view and the whole world seems to shine anew I try to blend in to spring a surprise but you instantly catch my eyes And there’s no hiding as you jump in my arms There’s no way I can concentrate on school when my mind is soaking in pools of you That kiss that we shared the sun’s glow in your hair the promise that we’ll see each other soon So today I don’t care about Queen Victoria’s rule I’m making plans to intercept you Our smiles light up the whole hallway A flood of loveliness washes over my soul With time for only a kiss a pledge and a wish I hate that I have to let you go But I walk you to your classroom patiently Give a sly wink as I stroll past your door Then I am instantly back in a sprint counting each and every clock tick landing in my chair before my legs could feel sore There’s no way I can concentrate on school when the butterflies in my chest are dancing for you That kiss that we shared with no time to spare The promise that we’ll see each other soon I just have to get through this lecture on judicial review I’m making plans to get just one more moment with you I’m making plans to intercept you
