[Verse 1] I found the lights behind the mower In a box marked "working fine" Half the string came out in knots One lone bulb refused to shine I put the star above the doorway A little left of where it should Our plastic deer lost one antler But he still looked pretty good [Pre-Chorus] Ms. Lee came by with one spare clip And said, I think you've got this, kid [Chorus] Christmas runs on extension cords And neighbors knocking at the door One more bulb and one more try Watch that little house light up tonight It isn't grand, but it is ours One-antlered deer and strings of stars Christmas runs on extension cords And a whole lot of heart next door [Verse 2] At dusk the blue lights started blinking But the red ones wouldn't glow I found one loose bulb by the window Then lit them up against the snow Ms. Lee's old dog sized up our reindeer Then settled on the bottom stair She said, Same crew again next Christmas? I said, That deer's not going anywhere [Chorus] Christmas runs on extension cords And neighbors knocking at the door One more bulb and one more try Watch that little house light up tonight It isn't grand, but it is ours One-antlered deer and strings of stars Christmas runs on extension cords And a whole lot of heart next door [Instrumental - twang guitar and fiddle, eight bars] [Bridge] I found the missing antler Friday Underneath the workbench shelf I left it where it was and laughed That old deer looked like himself [Final Chorus] Christmas runs on extension cords And neighbors knocking at the door One more bulb and one more try Watch that little house light up tonight It isn't grand, but it is ours One-antlered deer and strings of stars Christmas runs on extension cords And a whole lot of heart next door [Outro] I wrote "working fine" upon the box And put the spare clip in the top.
