The Silent Fall - Retold

All rights reserved O mournful heart, in night’s eternal shroud confined, Where stars dare not their feeble rays bestow, I stand, a wraith, by fate’s cruel hand designed, To watch the rose’s death in winter’s woe. From voids unknown, where dread gods weave their lore, My soul doth quake—yet yearns for something more. Upon this winter’s morn, where frost doth cling to casement cold, I, spectre of the night’s embrace, in sorrow’s thrall behold. My rose, once clad in scarlet pomp, now fades ‘neath Time’s unyielding sway, Its petals drop, like hopes forlorn, to earth’s unfeeling clay. O whispers dire from realms unseen, where cosmic horrors reign supreme, Through veins immortal course their dread, a ceaseless, madd’ning dream. Behold! The final petal quakes, suspended o’er oblivion’s maw, In its soft fall, my ages pass—each wound, each ancient flaw. The sum of life, so frail, so brief, a mote in chaos’ boundless sea, Defies the gods’ unheeding gaze, their cold eternity. With speed of shades from Tartarus sprung, I clasp it ere it greets the ground, And lo! The voices hush—their clamour yields to silence profound. Through centuries of starless woe, those murmurs plagued my deathless mind, From voids where nameless terrors writhe, no mortal soul could find. They gnawed within my cursed heart, a chorus of unutter’d fears, Driving me through shadowed vales, where hope itself despairs. Yet in this petal’s tender fold, held fast by hands that death defy, The tempest stills—a peace descends, as if the stars themselves comply. But hark! The dawn’s relentless fire ascends with cruel, unsparing beam, Its rays, like judgments from the gods who mock my fleeting dream, Consume this form that time forgot, to ashes frail as winter’s breath, My endless life dissolves in light, a sacrifice to death. The petal, clasped in fading grasp, shall drift upon my pyre’s dust, A requiem for joys that mortals’ hearts entrust. With speed of shades from Tartarus sprung, I clasped it ere it greeted ground, And lo! The voices hushed—their clamour yielded to silence profound. As morning’s blaze my form consumes, and dust to dust returns once more, The petal floats on zephyrs soft, where once my heart did soar. In silence deep, the cosmos speaks—a truth too vast for mortal ken, The voices stilled, yet what is won, when all must end as it began? O rose of winter’s fleeting grace, thy fall hath freed my soul to wane.
