Rebuilding takes time

STUDIO

In the quiet, dust-choked aftermath of the massacre, Shelley and Stozi stand at the center of what’s left of Colony 55. The screams are gone, replaced by the low hum of damaged generators and the ache of a community nearly erased. With Frim stabilized in the med bay and a handful of shaken survivors banded together, they realize no cavalry is coming. Crusk Corporation offers little more than a cold, automated message of “incident acknowledged.” So Shelley and Stozi take charge. They gather the survivors, scavenging through twisted steel and blown-out corridors for anything usable. Every shard of Ridium, every half-working drill head, every scrap of wiring becomes precious. To keep the colony alive, they strike gritty, under-the-table deals with passing merchants, smugglers, and wanderers drifting through the sector—trading raw Ridium for tools, rations, and patched-up machinery. It’s slow, brutal work: clearing tunnels, rebuilding life support, constructing shelters out of scrap meant to be thrown away. But bit by bit, rig by rig, the ruins begin to look less like a graveyard and more like a frontier outpost. Time stretches into years. The survivors—once a handful—grow into a bustling knot of miners, traders, and wanderers seeking opportunity. By the end, the colony that nearly died becomes something new: a gritty, thriving hub on the edge of civilization, a waystation for anyone traveling the intergalactic routes. And at the heart of it all is Shelley—the mother who left home to save her son, who fought creatures no one believed existed, and who now stands as a symbol of resilience on a world that refuses to stay dead.
