The Devil Went Down To The Hollow (DS)
[Intro] (Slow, heavy southern rock groove, bone-deep preacher whisper) The Devil went down to the Hollow He was lookin' for a crown to steal He'd been hearin' about a rider With a storm that the world could feel He heard about the rail He heard about the horse He heard about a preacher with a voice like a wildfire force He laughed and he stepped from the shadows "Well... Let's see if the stories real." [Verse 1] (Driving bluegrass rhythm, steady boot-stomp pulse) Devil came driftin' through the Hollow with a black coat draggin' through the clay Lookin' at the rails and the riders and the ghosts and the storm clouds driftin' his way Heard about a king on a midnight run and a horse with a thunder heart Heard about a sound in the Hollow so cold that it could tear a soul apart He said: "I done battled the best in the cities I done battled the best in the towns I done walked through the fire and brimstone Ain't nobody takin' me down" [Challenge] (Music drops out, low distorted guitar drone) "Rider... I hear you own this Hollow. I hear you own this rail. I hear you got a fiddle that can shake the dead And a voice that can summon a gale. So put your hand on that bow And let's see what you've got. If I win, This Hollow is mine. If you win... I walk." [Verse 2 – Devil's Run] [Fast rhythmic midwest chopper flow, aggressive rapid-fire delivery] The Devil hit the strings with a hellfire grin And a rhythm that rattled the bones Fast little demons danced in the smoke And the darkness sang through the tones He ripped through the valleys He ripped through the graves He ripped through the thunder and lightning and shadows and all of the souls he enslaved [Fiddle Solo - Devil's Round] [Fast demonic fiddle solo, sharp chaotic southern rock rhythm, screeching strings] [Break] (Music stops dead, total silence) The crowd stood frozen The storm stood still Even the horse lowered his head Then the Devil looked up and smiled: "Your turn." [Verse 3 – Hollow King Rider] (Heavy chain-stomp percussion detonates, intense preacher delivery) The Rider stepped forward slow as a storm Put his hand on Buzern's mane Looked at the Devil and laughed one time "Boy... You don't know this rain." Then the fiddle screamed. The rail came alive in the mud. The horse stomped once. The crowd stomped twice. The Hollow answered in blood. [Chorus - The Battle] [Fast rhythmic midwest chopper flow, hyper-speed percussive delivery] Fast runnin' rhythm and preacher flow Midwest chop with a southern soul Ghosts on the rail and a horse in stride Storm in the sky and the king don't hide The Devil kept smilin' Till the crowd joined in Then the smile disappeared. [Fiddle Solo - Rider's Round] [Blazing fast epic bluegrass fiddle solo, heavy thunderous rhythm section, powerful locomotive storm pressure strings] [Instrumental Duelling Breakdown - The Fiddle Battle] [Blazing fast dual fiddle battle, furious bluegrass breakdown, heavy southern rock rhythm section, aggressive chain-stomp percussion, intense climax] [Finale] [Rapid-fire chopper delivery, high-energy peak, frantic and driving] The fiddle got louder. The rail got hotter. The storm rolled over the hill. The Hollow kept singin'. The horse kept runnin'. The Devil stood perfectly still. Then the last note rang. The last stomp fell. The last echo rolled through the night. The Devil shook his head. Turned toward the dark. And vanished out of sight. [Outro] (Fading southern rock groove, slow preacher whisper) The Devil went down to the Hollow Lookin' for a crown to steal But the Hollow kept the rail The Rider kept the storm And Buzern kept the wheel. [Heavy iron horse stomp] [End
