The Drama Song
Step into the spotlight, leave your own life at the door, The moment your feet hit the black-painted floor. Drama isn't just "acting" or "showing your face," It’s about how you use the tension and the space. Whether you’re on the stage or you’re calling the cues, You’re the one telling the stories that the world can’t refuse. It’s built on three pillars—the "Devised" and the "Script," And the "Live Theatre" where the secrets are unzipped. First, let’s talk about the "Tools" in your physical kit, The way you move your body and the way that you sit. Your Vocal range—the pitch, the pause, and the tone, Making sure the message in the back row is known. Then your Physicality—the gesture and the gait, Are you moving with a "lightness" or a "heavy-duty" weight? Check your Proxemics—the distance between the two, Does the space say "I hate you" or "I’m in love with you"? Now let’s look at the "Page," the "Practitioners" path, The ones who did the "Drama-Science" and the "Drama-Math." You’ve got Stanislavski, looking for the "Truth," Finding the "Magic If" and the memories of youth. Then you’ve got Brecht, who wants to break the fourth wall, Reminding the audience it’s a play after all. He uses "Epic Theatre" to make you think, not just feel, To show that the problems in the world are actually real. Don't forget the "Designers," the ghosts in the wings, The ones who control how the whole production swings. The Lighting—is it a "wash" or a "profile" beam? Creating a nightmare or a soft, golden dream. The Sound—is it "diegetic" (part of the world), Or a "non-diegetic" track while the plot is unfurled? The Costume, the Set, and the Props in the hand, Every single item must be "semiotically" planned. In the exam, they’ll ask you to "Analyze" the play, How you’d direct a scene in your own specific way. Describe the "Mood" and the "Atmosphere" you’d build, And how you’d want the audience to be shocked or be thrilled. Evaluate the "Live Theatre" you went to see, From the choices of the actors to the set's geometry. It’s not about the "glamour" or the "fame" or the "glitz," It’s about the "Human Condition" broken down into bits. So find your "Objective," find your "Motivation" too, And remember that the character is living through you. From the first "read-through" to the "curtain-call" night, Drama is the search for the truth in the light. Take a beat, take a breath, find the energy and flow, The stage is all yours... now on with the show.
