Billboard Boy

[Verse 1] He went up on a Tuesday over Shoreditch Forty foot of jaw above the road Selling something French you spray behind your collar For a man you'll never be but might've owed The scaffolders had left him by the morning With a pigeon doing laps around his eye And the whole of Old Street roundabout was worshipping This beautiful enormous bloke who'll never have to try [Pre-Chorus] And the rain came down his cheekbone Like he'd finally learned to cry But he hadn't, he was laminate Just paper, paste and sky [Chorus] Oi, Billboard Boy What's the weather like up there? Oi, Billboard Boy With your unemployed thousand-yard stare You're nobody's neighbour You're everyone's type Oi, Billboard Boy Have a wonderful life [Verse 2] The girls take a photo at the bus stop The lads give him grief from the 38 Somebody's tagged a moustache on his collarbone And honestly, mate, it looks great He's been there through a heatwave and a transport strike Through a Tuesday and a national grief And he hasn't said a word about the rent or the weather Which is frankly a bit of a relief [Pre-Chorus] And we walk beneath him hungover In our normal little coats While he sells eternal confidence To a city full of blokes [Chorus] Oi, Billboard Boy What's the weather like up there? Oi, Billboard Boy With your unemployed thousand-yard stare You're nobody's neighbour You're everyone's type Oi, Billboard Boy Have a wonderful life [Middle Eight] But somewhere there's a boy Who had to be that boy Who stood beneath a light And got told to look like joy And he's probably on a train now Being no one, being tired Wishing he could walk past himself And not feel slightly hired [Final Chorus] Oi, Billboard Boy We'll be sad to see you go They're pasting up a yoghurt Where your face is in a row You were nobody's neighbour You were everyone's light Oi, Billboard Boy Have a wonderful life [Outro] Next month it's a trainer Next month it's a phone Same forty foot of nobody Looking gorgeous and alone Oi, Billboard Boy Oi, Billboard Boy Have a wonderful life
