Sonnet 106 - William Shakespeare

V5.5

[Intro] (The song begins with a mournful Ney (reed flute) improvisation over a deep, vibrating Cello drone. A solitary orchestral chime rings out. The atmosphere is ancient and vast.) [Verse 1 - Sufi Style] (Vocal: Deep, soulful, chest-voice with melismatic Sufi ornaments) When in the chronicle of wasted time I see descriptions of the fairest wights, And beauty making beautiful old rhyme In praise of ladies dead and lovely knights, [Verse 2 - Operatic Entry] (A Dramatic Operatic Tenor/Soprano enters, the melody becomes more structured and Western-classical. Orchestral strings begin to swell) Then, in the blazon of sweet beauty's best, Of hand, of foot, of lip, of eye, of brow, I see their antique pen would have express'd Even such a beauty as you master now. [Interlude - The Fusion] (The rhythmic Bendir meets the orchestral timpani. A fast-paced duet between the Ney and a first Violin, weaving East and West together.) [Chorus - Grand Operatic Climax] (The full orchestra and a spiritual choir join at maximum volume. The vocals soar to high, powerful notes in a grand theatrical style) So all their praises are but prophecies Of this our time, all you prefiguring; And, for they look'd but with divining eyes, They had not skill enough your worth to sing! (Repeat with rising intensity) They had not skill enough your worth to sing! [Bridge - Meditative Transition] (The heavy orchestration drops out, leaving only a shimmering harp and a soft Ney melody. The two vocal styles (Sufi and Opera) begin to harmonize in a gentle, ethereal blend) For we, which now behold these present days, Have eyes to wonder, but lack tongues to praise. [Outro - Final Ascent] (The music builds one last time into a glorious, cinematic finish. The Tenor hits a sustained high note while the Sufi vocal chants a spiritual "Hu" in the background) Have eyes to wonder... But lack tongues to praise... (The grand orchestra hits a final, resonant chord that slowly fades into the breathy sound of the Ney) [End]
