[Verse 1] They sit where the rail meets the sky On a terrace worn smooth by time Tea in chipped cups, slow and kind Counting what remains, not what they left behind Old hands turn the morning light Like a letter read a hundred times Every laugh has a weathered face Every scar still knows its place [Pre-Chorus] And the days don't come back twice No, they don't wait up for anyone So they lift their eyes and take their slice Of the gold before the sun is gone [Chorus] Time is the only gold Hold it close, hold it close Cherish what you hold Before the wind moves through Every day, let it bloom Let it bloom, let it bloom Time is the only gold So love the day you're through [Verse 2] A terrace chair, a folded coat A grapevine shadow on the stone They've learned the shape of letting go And still they bless the life they know A last slow turn, a shared glance A story passed from hand to hand What is loved is never small When the clock can take so much from all [Pre-Chorus] And the days don't come back twice No, they don't wait up for anyone So they lift their cups to the fading light And thank the hours one by one [Chorus] Time is the only gold Hold it close, hold it close Cherish what you hold Before the wind moves through Every day, let it bloom Let it bloom, let it bloom Time is the only gold So love the day you're through [Bridge] When the evening leans in low They don't beg it not to go They say, "Come sit, come stay awhile" Then they let it leave with a smile No vault can keep it safe No hand can call it back But a day well held, a day well known Is a fortune no one lacks [Final Chorus] Time is the only gold Hold it close, hold it close Cherish what you hold Before the wind moves through Every day, let it bloom Let it bloom, let it bloom Time is the only gold So love the day you're through [Outro] On the terrace, they remain In the hush between the planes Not waiting for forever Just grateful for today
