Eutrophication of the Soul

Eutrophication of the Soul [Intro – whispered] Yeah... Overflow... overload... Too much of a good thing becomes a poison... Watch the water turn green... --- [Verse 1] I was a clear lake under a silver moon, Still enough to hold every star in the room, Depth in my chest, calm in my veins, A mirror of heaven before the rains. Then came the voices carrying gifts, Buckets of promises tied to their lips, They poured their opinions into my stream, Fed me their fears disguised as dreams. Every compliment, every criticism, Every expectation became a mechanism, Fertilizer falling from invisible skies, Feeding the weeds behind my eyes. The shoreline cheered when the bloom appeared, Called it growth, called it blessed, called it weird, But underneath the emerald glow, Something sacred was losing flow. [Pre-Chorus] The water looked alive from afar, Nobody saw the dying stars, Nobody noticed the creatures below, Running out of places to go. --- [Chorus] This is eutrophication of the soul, Too much feeding on a heart once whole, Now the surface shines but the depths can't breathe, A beautiful sickness hiding underneath. The bloom gets thicker, the sunlight fades, Truth gets buried beneath the masquerade, I'm drowning in abundance, losing control, This is eutrophication of the soul. [Ad-lib] (Overflow...) (Too much... too much...) (Can't breathe...) (Beneath the bloom...) --- [Verse 2] Everybody wanted a piece of my shore, Wanted more stories, wanted more war, Wanted my kindness, wanted my pain, Wanted the thunder but not the rain. So I kept giving until I disappeared, Smiling through exhaustion year after year, Planting gardens in everybody's land, While my own roots slipped through my hands. The algae whispered, "You're becoming great," While oxygen leaked through a crack in fate, Success on the surface, collapse below, The oldest tragedy nobody knows. The fish of wonder floated upside down, The birds of joy stopped circling around, Ancient instincts washed away, Lost in a fluorescent jade display. I became crowded with borrowed seeds, A kingdom conquered by invasive needs, The river forgot where it came from before, And mistook captivity for more. --- [Pre-Chorus 2] What use is growth if it blocks the sun? What use is winning when the self is undone? What use is applause from the banks above, If the depths forget the language of love? --- [Chorus] This is eutrophication of the soul, Too much feeding on a heart once whole, Now the surface shines but the depths can't breathe, A beautiful sickness hiding underneath. The bloom gets thicker, the sunlight fades, Truth gets buried beneath the masquerade, I'm drowning in abundance, losing control, This is eutrophication of the soul. --- [Bridge – dark realization] Maybe not every gift is nourishment. Maybe not every visitor belongs. Maybe boundaries are dams built by wisdom. Maybe silence is where healing grows strong. The forest never asks the vine to consume it. The ocean never begs every river to stay. Nature knows what humanity forgets: Too much feeding creates decay. Too much praise creates dependence. Too much shame creates disguise. Too much certainty kills wonder. Too much light can blind the eyes. Too much information, too much validation, Too many hands inside my cultivation, Till my spirit looked like prosperity, While my depths suffered starvation. --- [Breakdown] Drain the excess... Pull the weeds... Let the sediment settle... I don't need more voices. I need more listening. I don't need more answers. I need better questions. I don't need another bloom. I need the water to clear. --- [Final Chorus – ascension] No more eutrophication of the soul, I'm reclaiming what made me whole, Letting the sunlight reach the floor, Opening forgotten doors. The algae of illusion starts to break, The sleeping depths begin to wake, Fish of wonder swim again, Life returns beneath the skin. The current remembers where it began, Long before approval became a plan, The lake grows clear, the stars return, And every reflection starts to burn. No longer drowning in abundance's role, No longer trapped in the overflow, The water breathes, the depths unfold... Beyond the bloom... Beyond the noise... Beyond the hunger... I find the source. [Outro – whispered] The deepest poison wasn't emptiness... It was excess. And the cure... Was remembering that even the soul Needs room to breathe.
