[Title] Higher Power Has a Name [Verse 1] They set the chairs out in a ring Said, son, admit you're powerless They weren't wrong about the wreckage Lord, I made an awful mess They said the wheel was never mine And I know that part is true But they left the name box empty Said just pick one, any'll do [Verse 2] Find a power, any power Just as long as it ain't you Call it nature, call it fellowship Call it anything that'll do But a power with no face on it Ain't got hands to lift a man And a god that I invented Can't do what a real God can [Chorus] Your higher power has a name He ain't a force, He ain't a flame He ain't whatever gets you by He bled, He died, He didn't stay I don't lay down at a doorknob I lay it down at Calvary The One who broke the chain on me — Your higher power has a name [Verse 3] Now I love the men who sat there They were honest, they were real They knew more about my sickness Than the textbooks ever will But they walked me to the water Then they left me on the bank Said the Name was too specific So they left the Name out blank [Chorus] Your higher power has a name He ain't a force, He ain't a flame He ain't whatever gets you by He bled, He died, He didn't stay I don't lay down at a doorknob I lay it down at Calvary The One who broke the chain on me — Your higher power has a name [Bridge - lead vocal, long lines, building] Paul said the good I want to do is the thing I never do And the evil that I hate is the thing I always choose Then he cried out, wretched man, who will save me from this death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ — He's the only answer left [Breakdown - call and response, stomp and voices only] One day at a time — IT IS FINISHED Progress, not perfection — IT IS FINISHED Keep coming back — HE NEVER LEFT Powerless — BUT HE IS NOT [Final Chorus - full, major, congregation wide open] Your higher power has a name He ain't a force, He ain't a flame He ain't whatever gets you by He bled, He died, He didn't stay There ain't no other name in heaven Ain't no other name to plead Above every name forever — Your higher power has a name [Tag] His name is Jesus His name is Jesus Your higher power has a name
