The river of Tears

V6

I look upon the river of their tears Flood and, famine, broken years Homes erased, Children swept away I measure every drop that falls today Not enough The earth cracked open, cities fell to dust Mothers clutched the clothes of the lost Entire towns reduced to rubble I watch the current deepen, cold and vast Still the level stays below the mark. I count the bodies floating past the banks I weigh the silence after every prayer No fury rises, no grief bends my hand Only the calculation, Cold, Cold I look upon the river of their tears Flood and, famine, broken years Homes erased, Children swept away I measure every drop that falls today Not enough The waters rise, the banks begin to break Yet still the volume fails the final test I do not weep, I do not turn away I simply wait for more to fill the rest Not enough Not enough Never Enough The river must run deeper still Another quake, another hungry night Another flame that swallows what remains I note the increase with my own eyes And find the total wanting once again I count the bodies floating past the banks I weigh the silence after every prayer No fury rises, no grief bends my hand Only the calculation, Cold, Cold COLD I look upon the river of their tears Flood and, famine, broken years Homes erased, Children swept away I measure every drop that falls today Not enough Not enough Not enough The suffering remains too little Cold, Cold
