Two Worlds - part 2

V5.5

[Verse 4 – Learning] Days became weeks beneath the ground,We learned their words, we learned their sound. They showed us how the crystals grew,How coral circuits carried throughA pulse of light from tower to tower,Their mathematics made of flowers. No smoke. No coal. No turning gears. A science grown through countless years. They laughed to see our boiler flame. We laughed when crystals did the same. Two histories that never metWere trading secrets underground. But every hour— another crack. And every crack— the rain came back. [Instrumental – The Engineers] [Verse 5 – The Great Repair] Bring the plates!Bring the chains!Bring the pumps against the rain! Copper braces, crystal seams,Coral woven through the beams. Their builders sang. Our hammers rang. Crystal melted.Steel was hung. Pressure rising— Hold it! Hold it! Seal the western fracture! Now! The cavern shook. The engines screamed. The black tide pushed against the seam. Then— silence. One last dropfell from the stone. And stopped. [Quiet Section] For the first time in a hundred daysThe children walked beneath that place. One reached upward with her hand Expecting rain. But nothing came. [Verse 6 – The Problem Beneath the Problem] Their scholars took us deeper stillThrough ancient shafts beneath the hills, Down where the glowing forests ceaseAnd stone is crushed by stone beneath. There the black ocean waits below,Forever pressing, forced to flow. They feared the poison would return. We saw something the surface burns. I drew a tower. They drew a well. I drew a pipe. They understood. And suddenly two worlds could seeThe strangest possibility. [Chorus – The Bargain] You need the darkness taken away. We need the darkness every day. We'll draw the blackness from the stone,Carry it upward to our home. You keep your crystal gardens bright. We feed the engines in our night. Neither servant, neither king— Just two worlds trading everything. [Verse 7 – The Treaty of Two Worlds] We talked for seven days and nights,Through arguments and strange delights. How much to take? How deep to drill? Who owns the darkness underneath? Their elders spoke. Our captain stood. No empire here. No conquest would. Only pipes where cracks had grown,Only wells agreed and known. And if the pressure climbed too high,The surface pumps would bleed it dry. Their cities safe. Our engines fed. A treaty signed where oceans spreadThree miles above our meeting hall— Between two worlds divided by a wall. [Grand Chorus – Two Skies] There is a city under the seaAnd now they know of you and me. Crystal towers touch their sky,Coral lanterns never die. And far above, beneath the sun,Another human world moves on. One beneath the ocean blue. One beneath a crystal hue. Different histories. Different skies. Same curiosity behind our eyes. [Instrumental – Ascent] [Epilogue – The Return] Turn the wheel.Release the chain. Fire the boilers once again. Our brass leviathan slowly climbsThrough blackened water, ancient time. Behind us lies another landNo surface nation understands. Ahead— the sunlight starts to gleam. For seven weekswe lived a dream. The hatch unlocks. The daylight burns. The surface waits for our return. They'll ask us what we found below. We'll tell them— "People." And perhaps that's allthey need to know. [Final Refrain – distant voices from below] Two worlds... One stone... Neither one... Is now alone. Two worlds... One sea... And darkness turned... To possibility.
