Ora Leonis Clausa (The Mouth of the Lion Shut)
[Intro – Low ominous chant, desert wind] Deus meus, misit angelum suum Et conclusit ora leonum (Daniel 6:22) [Verse 1 – Slow crushing march, pipe organ] Taken in chains from Jerusalem’s flame, A boy of royal blood now carried a slave’s name. Yet he refused the king’s meat, refused the king’s wine, Kept kosher in Babylon, kept the covenant sign. (Daniel 1) [Verse 2 – Galloping riffs, soaring clean vocals] Three times a day toward the Holy City he kneeled, Windows wide open, no decree could make him yield. The satraps snarled, the decree was sealed with pride, “Pray only to Darius!” – but Daniel defied. (Daniel 6:10) [Pre-Chorus – Choir swells] In lacum leonum missus est Daniel… Et rex sigillavit lapidem anulo suo [Chorus – Massive, triumphant] Ora leonis clausa est! The angel shut their jaws! Ora leonis clausa est! God of Israel, keep Thy laws! Through the night the lions roared, Yet not a hair was harmed, Faithful to the end, Daniel walked unharmed! [Verse 3 – Haunting lute + recorder] Morning came, the king ran pale with dread, “Daniel, servant of the living God, Has your God saved you from the dead?” From the depths a calm voice rose: “My God sent His angel and He shut the lions’ mouths.” (Daniel 6:20-22) [Bridge – Half-time, monk chant + thunderous] Tunc rex iussit Et adduxerunt viros illos qui accusaverant Danielem Et in lacum leonum missi sunt… Et non pervenerunt ad pavimentum usque Donec arriperent eos leones (Daniel 6:24 – The accusers and their families were thrown in, and the lions overpowered them before they hit the ground) [Breakdown – Brutal growls + gang shouts] BONES CRUSHED! FLESH TORN! The trap reversed, the wicked mourn! The Lord of hosts avenges His own! [Final Chorus – Epic, everything unleashed] Ora leonis clausa est! For every faithful soul! Ora leonis clausa est! The kingdom shall not fall! Darius wrote to every tongue and tribe beneath the sun: “Tremble and fear before the God of Daniel, For His dominion is forever, His kingdom never done!” [Outro – Gregorian chant over fading lion roars] Vivit Deus Danielis In saecula saeculorum Dominus excelsus Terribilis et magnus Amen. Amen. Deus vult.
