I Am Angrboða

[Intro – low, threatening] You call them monsters. Wolf. Serpent. Keeper of the dead. Funny... They had names before you gave them chains. [Verse 1 – rapid chopper flow] I am Angrboða, Ironwood born, Mother of children your gods learned to scorn. You saw three lives and you saw your doom, Then filled every cradle with prophecy’s gloom. Fenrir had teeth, so you taught him the chain, Jörmungandr grew, so you cast him away. Hel wore death where you wanted light, So you sent my daughter beyond your sight. Don’t tell me fate made your hands clean, I know what you feared, I know what you’d seen. Visions don’t wash what your choices do, You saw the ending and helped make it true. Before every saga made monsters of three, They were my blood. They were family. [Chorus – massive female lead] I AM ANGRBOÐA! Mother of those you learned to fear! I AM ANGRBOÐA! I remember every chain, every tear! You scattered my blood from the hall to the sea, Then blamed what they became on destiny! I AM ANGRBOÐA! If monsters they are— tell me who made them bleed! [Verse 2 – faster] Fenrir, my wolf, you fed him by hand, Watched him grow strong while you secretly planned. Læding broke, then Dromi failed, Then Gleipnir came soft, thin, and veiled. He asked for honor, a hand for the lie, Týr gave his own and looked in his eye. One lost a hand, one lost his trust, Tell me, Allfather, which wound was just? You chained the future beneath a stone, Then wondered why rage grew strong alone. You wanted safety, you purchased wrath, Then blamed my son for walking your path. [Verse 3 – rolling double-time] Jörmungandr, hurled from the gods’ bright land, Cast to the ocean by Óðinn’s hand. Down through darkness, cold without end, No mother’s arms and no father’s friend. He grew till Miðgarðr lay in his ring, Sea became kingdom, exile made king. You threw him away because prophecy spoke, Now oceans themselves move under his coil. Þórr came fishing with murder for bait, Hook through the water, dragging at fate. You call the serpent savage and wild, I call him what he was first: my child. [Chorus] I AM ANGRBOÐA! Mother of those you learned to fear! I AM ANGRBOÐA! I remember every chain, every tear! You scattered my blood from the hall to the sea, Then blamed what they became on destiny! I AM ANGRBOÐA! If monsters they are— tell me who made them bleed! [Verse 4 – colder] Then Hel. You looked at her face and saw death. I saw my daughter. Half shadow, half beauty, completely her own, Then Óðinn sent her to sit on a throne. You took her away from her mother’s embrace, She answered exile by ruling that place. No torture, no flame, no eternal disgrace, She keeps the forgotten and gives them a place. You feared what she was, she became what she chose, Now everyone comes when life’s doorway closes. You sent her below to remove her from sight, She turned your rejection to sovereign might. [Verse 5 – maximum-speed chopper] And Loki, flame with the crooked grin, Father of children condemned for kin. Whatever his crimes, whatever his fall, My children were judged before any of it all. Prophecy whispered and panic took hold, Fear became wisdom when powerful gods told Themselves every cruelty served something more, While mothers kept count of who vanished through doors. So Óðinn, don’t tell me the burden was hard, Don’t show me the scars that your choices have carved. You lost an eye. I lost all three. One bound in stone, one beneath the sea, One sent below where the dead must go— Tell me what price you paid that a mother doesn’t know. [Bridge – beat drops low] You say: “I saw what would happen.” I say: “So did the Norns.” They did not make you choose. You did. So do I. [Final Verse – building fury] I choose my children. Every fang. Every scale. Every silent hall behind Hel’s veil. I choose the wolf that remembers the chain. I choose the serpent commanding the main. I choose my daughter, sovereign and still. I choose them beyond your prophecy’s will. Call me grief-bringer. Call me Jötunn. Call me mother of monsters again. But when Ragnarök tears every certainty down, When Fenrir runs free and fire eats crown, When Jörmungandr rises and Hel guards her own, Remember the mother you left here alone. [Final Chorus – enormous] I AM ANGRBOÐA! Mother of those you learned to fear! I AM ANGRBOÐA! I remember every chain, every tear! You scattered my blood from the hall to the sea, Then blamed what they became on destiny! I AM ANGRBOÐA! YOU NAMED THEM MONSTERS— [beat cuts] I called them my children. [Outro – calm, deadly] Óðinn... You told me you did what you had to do. So did I. Come defend your choices to a mother.
