[Verse 1] I found a cup on the curb Blue paint, chipped on the rim You drew a face on the side Now it looks back when I grin You said, “let it float” So I set it on the rain Tiny ship in the gutter Like it knew my name [Pre-Chorus] And I followed it down Past the bakery door Past the torn-up flyer Stuck to the corner store It kept turning left Like it had a plan I was just a kid With a paper in my hand [Chorus] Paper boat parade Paper boat parade Take me where you go Paper boat parade Paper boat parade Paper boat parade Ride that little wave Paper boat parade [Verse 2] It crossed the drain grate Like it was skimming ice Under a bridge of old gum And a couple dice A dog barked once From a porch in the dark You laughed so hard You shook my arm [Pre-Chorus] Then the sky broke open On the laundromat roof We were soaked and holy In our Sunday shoes And that silly little boat Kept on through the lane One brave fold of paper In a steady rain [Chorus] Paper boat parade Paper boat parade Take me where you go Paper boat parade Paper boat parade Paper boat parade Ride that little wave Paper boat parade [Bridge] If the water rises I’ll fold one more If the world gets heavy I’ll make it float some more You and me and that drift Out past the edge We were never lost We were just ahead [Final Chorus] Paper boat parade Paper boat parade Take me where you go Paper boat parade Paper boat parade Paper boat parade Ride that little wave Paper boat parade Paper boat parade Paper boat parade I still see it move Paper boat parade
