[Spoken Introduction] I'm afraid to go to sleep. No, I'm really terrified. I think this is all some twisted dream that I'm going to wake up from. I'm going to wake up and still be at bottom of a pile of Pallets, or in Hospital, but still on New Spain. The only thing I've ever known was inside walls and below ceilings. Every part of my life is on a schedule that I have no control over. [Music Begins] [Verse 1] Jesse sat at one of the tables in the lunchroom, surrounded by other refugees from New Spain. She suddenly realized that she was more at home, around most of the crew than around people she supposedly grew up with. She didn't really know any of these people except by name. That realization devastated her. [Chorus] Oh, I'm living in a dreamland, fearing daylight's wake, Where shadows stretch and whispers break. When morning comes, will the nightmare scream, Or will I find solace in lingering dreams? [Verse 2] every time she had begun to get comfortable with someone, they were transferred, or she was transferred. She didn't get to really know anyone all her life. Charley was the closest to someone she knew. He had given her a little device one day when he relieved her. he said to only use it in her room. Then he disappeared like everyone did. [Chorus] Oh, I'm living in a dreamland, fearing daylight's wake, Where shadows stretch and whispers break. When morning comes, will the nightmare scream, Or will I find solace in lingering dreams? [Verse 3] the tiny device made noises that were soothing. the noises made her feel at peace. the very next day she was going to thank him. but he was gone, and then the accident, when she went back to her room after healing. the device was gone. she had torn her room apart trying to find it. [Chorus] Oh, I'm living in a dreamland, fearing daylight's wake, Where shadows stretch and whispers break. When morning comes, will the nightmare scream, Or will I find solace in lingering dreams? [Verse 4] "Can I sit?" came a voice she didn't recognize. Looking up she saw Jaimey, another member of the crew. "or are you trying to get away from every body?" He asked as if he already knew as he sat down. "I'm just trying to wrap my head around all that's happened" This has all been a shock I don't know how to deal with. "You're dealing better than most" [Chorus] Oh, I'm living in a dreamland, fearing daylight's wake, Where shadows stretch and whispers break. When morning comes, will the nightmare scream, Or will I find solace in lingering dreams? [Verse 5} "You've kind of hit the ground running" Jaimey pointed out as he ate. "And the crew has taken a shine to your fearless attitude." "Fearless," Jesse whispered, "That's a joke." "When we arrive at Serenity everybody going to disembark to their new lives. They'll all be going to the refugee center, so that they can adjust. "They?" Jesse was bewildered, shouldn't he have said "You?" "We'd like to know if you'll be leaving, or staying with the ship." [Chorus| Quietly, almost whispered] Oh, I'm living in a dreamland, fearing daylight's wake, Where shadows stretch and whispers break. When morning comes, will the nightmare scream, Or will I find solace in lingering dreams?
