Here is a 1960s-style big band number, smooth and elegant, sung in a Mel Tormé–style velvet baritone, with full brass, strings, and swing rhythm. --- 🎙️ “It Happened in Old New Orleans” (60s Big Band • Mel Tormé Style) Big band intro — Brass hits, soft brush drums, upright bass walking, piano gliding into a warm horn section swell… --- Verse 1 It happened in old New Or-leans, On a moonlit summer night… Where the river whispered secrets In that soft magnolia light. I saw her dancing by the levee, Like a dream in shades of green— Oh, my heart began its journey There in old New Or-leans. Verse 2 Trumpet played a lazy rhythm, Sax was sighin’ low and sweet… Streetlamps painted golden halos ’Cross that cobblestone retreat. When she smiled, the band got quiet, Time stood still, or so it seemed— ’Cause the world began and ended There in old New Or-leans. --- Chorus Ohhh, New Or-leans… Where the night goes on forever, Where you swear you hear the angels In each Creole melody… New Or-leans… Where the magic lasts forever, She touched my hand, My heart gave in— And the story still lives in me. --- Bridge (Soft, breathy croon) On Bourbon Street the stars were glowing, A gentle breeze was softly blowing… And every note the band was throwin’ Made me fall in love again. --- Verse 3 We danced until the sun was rising, Till the morning kissed the bay… But the memory stayed shining Long after she slipped away. Now whenever music finds me, And the trumpets sound serene— I go back to where it started… Yes, back to New Or-leans. --- Final Chorus (Big brass lift) New Or-leans… Where the night goes on forever, And the moonlight writes its poetry Across the old French Quarter scene… New Or-leans… I’ll remember it forever— ’Cause love was real, And time stood still— When it happened in old New Or-leans… --- If you'd like, I can add: 🎺 A spoken bandleader intro 🎷 More sax / trumpet solos 📻 A full Bandstand USA show-style announcer intro 🎤 A live performance version with crowd noise
