Check Engine and Grace(Live version)

Aright everybody!! This next song was Inspired by a true story of a couple I once knew. He drove his sweet wife around for cancer treatments and kidney dialysis on literal prayers that his truck would make it there. The check engine light was on but that old truck kept chugging along and it never let him down. God Bless Ya’ll!!! Lets tell the story… 1..2…3… [Verse 1] Got a ‘94 Ford with a heart like mine Rust on the doors, but she still rides fine Check engine light’s been glowin’ red But I just pray and push ahead [Verse 2] She sits beside me, scarf on tight Tryin’ to smile through another fight We don’t talk much on the ride But her hand finds mine every time [Chorus] We’re runnin’ on fumes and borrowed time But the Lord’s been drivin’ this frame of mine Ain’t got the cash to fix what breaks But we get there on check engine and grace Every mile’s a miracle made Outta busted belts and silent faith We’re drivin’ through hell in a holy place Holdin’ on with check engine and grace [Verse 3] That old clinic knows our name She jokes it’s like a second home these days I kiss her head and park out back Prayin’ we both make it down that track [Chorus] We’re runnin’ on fumes and borrowed time But the Lord’s been drivin’ this frame of mine Ain’t got the cash to fix what breaks But we get there on check engine and grace Every mile’s a miracle made Outta busted belts and silent faith We’re drivin’ through hell in a holy place Holdin’ on with check engine and grace [Bridge] Doctors talk and numbers rise But love don’t come with a price She still laughs when I miss the turn Says, “If we make it, we both might learn” [Final Chorus] Still runnin’ on fumes and borrowed time But there’s angels ridin’ in that line And I don’t need no polished faith Just a wheel, her hand, and a little grace Every mile’s a battle we face But hope rides shotgun in her place We’re drivin’ through fire with heaven’s face Holdin’ on with check engine and grace
