ANGELINA — ACT V I REMEMBER ENOUGH

V5.5

[ACT V — I REMEMBER ENOUGH] [AMP SCREAM.] [No warning.] [FULL BAND — FAST, FILTHY.] [WOMAN] Fuck memory. [RIFF.] There. I said it. Fuck memory. Everybody tells you the truth sets you free. Bullshit. Sometimes the truth just learns your address. [INSTRUMENTAL ATTACK.] I've spent years moving. New rooms. New beds. New men. New lies. And that fucking night keeps forwarding its mail. [DRUMS DRIVE HARDER.] Door. Light. Hand. Water. [RIFF.] Door. Light. Hand. Water. Stop. [Band stops.] I said— STOP. [Silence.] [She laughs nervously.] See? Even my own head doesn't fucking listen. [FAST RIFF RETURNS.] I remember his coat. I remember the rain. I remember saying I never loved him. I remember his face believing me. [Beat.] That's the part I deserve. [INSTRUMENTAL — distorted bass leads.] Then the door. 3:16. He leaves. I stay. Good. Simple. End of story. [DEAD STOP.] Except... I followed him. [GIANT GUITAR HIT.] Fuck. [Long guitar break.] I FOLLOWED HIM. [DRUMS DETONATE.] There. Happy now? I ran into the rain. Bare feet. Red dress. No coat. Screaming his name. Not because I suddenly became romantic. I was fucking furious. [RIFF.] How dare he leave when I hadn't finished destroying everything? [Cold laugh.] That's love, darling. Very dignified. [Hammond grows sinister.] He turned. I remember that. He turned... and smiled. [Music unexpectedly softens.] The bastard smiled. After everything I'd said. [Quiet.] And I— [She cannot continue.] [AMP FEEDBACK.] No. Keep moving. Keep the fucking music moving. [THE BAND SURGES.] 3:17. Rain. Headlights. [One violent orchestral strike.] A hand. [STOP.] My hand? His? I DON'T KNOW! [RIFF FRACTURES.] Light. Too much light. [Funeral bell.] A sound. Metal. Glass. [Silence.] Then water. [Heartbeat.] No... not water. Rain. It was rain. Of course it was rain. [Whisper.] Please let it have been rain. [LONG NIGHTMARE INSTRUMENTAL.] [Distorted bass, guitars, organ, strings. The four-note riff fights itself.] [WOMAN] I remember being on my knees. I remember red running down my hand. [Pause.] And now... I remember why. [Music dies.] It wasn't my blood. [LONG SILENCE.] [One breath.] There. That's enough. [RIFF EXPLODES.] NO MORE! [FULL SPEED-ROCK ASSAULT.] You wanted the truth? TAKE IT! Take the rain! Take the fucking door! Take the headlights! Take the red! Take every little piece you came here hoping I'd bleed for you! [ORCHESTRA + ROCK ERUPT.] But you don't get to watch this one. [Everything stops.] Not this. [Very quiet.] I loved him. [Heartbeat.] I told him I didn't. He believed me. He walked away. I followed. He turned. There was light. There was a sound. There was blood. [Pause.] His blood. [Silence.] And I remember holding his hand. [She breaks, then immediately hardens.] That's all. That's fucking all. [Long silence.] Don't ask me if he died. [Heartbeat.] Not yet. [Another heartbeat.] Because there's one thing I remember now that scares me more. [Very close.] He wasn't looking at the blood. He wasn't looking at the road. He was looking... at me. [Pause.] And he said something. [Clock.] 3:17. [WOMAN] And this time... I remember every fucking word. [BLACKOUT.] [LONG SPEED-ROCK INSTRUMENTAL OUTRO.] [Sudden final cut.]
