The Geography Song

It’s the world beneath your boots and the sky above your head, The maps that we draw and the stories that are read. It’s not just about "naming every river and sea," It’s the "how" and the "why" of the planet’s energy. From the shifting of the plates to the growth of the town, Geography is how the whole system goes down. Let's start with the Physical, the power of the Earth, The tectonic machines that give the mountains their birth. The crust is in pieces, drifting on the heat, Pulling apart or crashing where they meet. A Destructive margin? That’s a subduction zone, Where the rock melts down and the pressure is grown. Then the Volcano blows or the Earthquake hits, Shaking the foundation into a million bits. Now watch the weather work, the Erosion and the Flow, How the rivers and the ice make the landscape grow. A V-shaped valley or a Meander’s bend, Where the water finds a path right to the very end. On the coast, the waves are like a hammer and a saw, Carving out the arches and the stacks by the shore. It’s a cycle of "Wearing Down" and "Building Up" again, The constant battle between the land and the rain. Then there’s the Human side, the "People" and the "Place," The way seven billion humans take up the space. Urbanisation is the rush to the neon light, While the "Rural" areas are fading from the sight. Look at the Development Gap, the "Haves" and the "Have-nots," Comparing the skyscrapers to the shanty-town plots. It’s about Sustainability, the "Green" and the "Clean," Trying to live a life that isn't totally mean to the scene. Don't forget the Climate, the big global "Heat," The Carbon in the air and the ice in retreat. The Greenhouse Effect is a blanket on the world, Changing how the future is gonna be unfurled. From the Tropical Storms to the droughts in the sand, The weather is the "Feedback" from the damage to the land. In the exam, they’ll give you a "Case Study" to show, Like a flood in the UK or a quake in Mexico. You’ve got to talk about the "Social" and "Economic" cost, The "Environmental" impact and the lives that were lost. Geography is the big picture, the "Links" and the "Trends," The science of the world on which everything depends. So check your coordinates and follow the track, Once you see the world this way, you can’t go back.
