Jehovah Is Not God’s Name
V1 Four letters written on the ancient scroll, the Tetragrammaton, the hidden fire. A mystery that no one could control, the Name above the earthly and the higher. The vowels of the "Lord" were placed between, a sign to speak with trembling and with grace. But men mistook the mask for what was seen, and built a name that has no dwelling place. C For "I Am" is the fire in the bush, the Sacred breath that no one can contain. Through centuries of silence and the hush, we do not speak the Holy Name in vain. The "I Am" found a face and took a breath, in Jesus Christ the secret is disclosed. The Lord of Life who conquered every death, is the true Name that Heaven has proposed. V2 To all who call upon a hybrid sound, who lift a title made of ink and error: There is a deeper truth that must be found, to cast away the shadow and the mirror. It’s a name that human hands have stitched together, taking pieces from a language not their own. It wasn't meant to last through wind or weather, it’s a foundation built on shifting stone. B He did not come to teach a hidden phonics, or save us through a title or a term. He broke the chains of all the old mnemonics, to plant a seed that’s living, deep, and firm. The Father, Son, and Spirit—Three in One, the Name in which the battle has been won. V3 The Blessed Mother knew the Word made Flesh, she did not need a title made of clay. She felt the Spirit weave the world afresh, and saw the Light of an Eternal Day. She held the One whom Moses could not see, the God who came to set the captive free. No mistranslation held her in its grip, just Perfect Love upon her holy lip. Outro The Name is Person, not a hollow sound, it’s Jesus where the fullness can be found. Come back to what the ancient church has known, and leave the names that men have made alone. Jehovah is a shadow, passed and gone, but "I Am" is the Everlasting Dawn. [©2026 By Matthew E Treviño]
