Good Ride Cowboy

[Verse 1] As a child, he moved through Air Force towns, Till he found a piece of heaven on some Wyoming ground. Granddad’s ranch lit a fire deep inside By thirteen, that kid really knew how to ride He was the Wyoming high school bareback champion, Hell, Nothing could hold back that young cowboys ambition. By nineteen-seventy, on the national rodeo scene, He wrote his songs on the road, just to pay his entry fees. [Pre-Chorus] Sold his music in magazines and mail-order trade His family and friends shipped the music that he made It was one part rodeo, one part rock and roll, A modern-day cowboy with a wild hippie soul. [Chorus] Dodging Copenhagen missiles, he invented a Rodeo Rock and Roll, A true cowboy poet, who poured out his soul, He sat tall in the saddle, held his head up high— He Kept his eyes fixed where the trail meets the sky. And lived like he wasn't afraid to die, he just really enjoyed the ride. You had a good ride, cowboy,............. one helluva good ride. [Verse 2] The rodeo finals were in Oklahoma, back in the mid seventies It's where the toughest in rodeo, would gather and compete. He battled a slew of injuries, most notably a broken collarbone Chris drew Stormy Weather, he just had to keep from being thrown. A rule change gave him a shot at the precious gold buckle, A wild horse and injuries, made it a helluva struggle He was a true symbol of "Cowboy tough" and always "rode for the brand." And he brought all of that energy to the Stadium grandstand. [Pre-Chorus] He always said, "If they get crazy, he’d get crazier" Roy Rogers meets Led Zeppelin would be his signature Riding a mechanical bull on the stadium stage His concerts were a party, and he kept his guests engaged. [Chorus] Dodging Copenhagen missiles, he invented Rodeo Rock and Roll, A true cowboy poet, who poured out his soul, He sat tall in the saddle, held his head up high— He Kept his eyes fixed where the trail meets the sky. And lived like he wasn't afraid to die, he just really enjoyed the ride. You had a good ride, cowboy,............. one helluva good ride. [Bridge] His ole hat wasn't just felt, but heritage and sweat And the songs he sang, are just too great to forget. Brooks brought the thunder back to say farewell, recording "Good Ride Cowboy", his friends story to tell, Sooner or later all shooting stars seem to fall, His last ride was on the black horse that waits for us all. I no longer have a worn out tape of Chris LaDoux, but he tops my playlists----- go ahead and stream a song or two. [Guitar Solo / Explosion SFX] [Chorus] Dodging Copenhagen missiles, he invented Rodeo Rock and Roll, A true cowboy poet, who poured out his soul, He sat tall in the saddle, held his head up high— He Kept his eyes fixed where the trail meets the sky. And lived like he wasn't afraid to die, he just really enjoyed the ride. You had a good ride, cowboy,............. one helluva good ride. [Outro] Up in Kaycee, Wyoming, where his fans still meet, a festival is held along Nolan and First Street. It features a rodeo and a live music show Chris's son continues the legacy, his dad used to know. You had a good ride, Chris LeDoux,............ one helluva good ride. (Fade out on a heavy electric guitar riff)
