Brothers Don't Watch

V6

[INTRO — spoken, almost whispered] I need to tell you something. I was there. Not in that room. Not that night. But I was there. Because I’m a man. And I know exactly how easy it is for men to look away. ⸻ [VERSE I — QUIET, GUITAR ONLY] We teach boys how to fight. How to throw a punch. How to never show weakness. How to protect your brother. How to stand your ground. But nobody taught me what to do when the danger was standing beside me. Nobody taught me that sometimes courage isn’t throwing the first punch. Sometimes courage is saying: “Get the fuck away from her.” And I wonder… How many times did somebody hear something and pretend they didn’t? How many times did somebody see fear and call it drama? How many times did a man look at another man and think: “That’s not my problem.” ⸻ [BUILD — PERCUSSION ENTERS] That’s the lie. That’s the fucking lie. Because the second you see someone being hurt, it becomes your problem. Not because you’re a hero. Not because you’re better. Because you’re human. ⸻ [VERSE II — FASTER] And don’t tell me you didn’t know. You knew. Maybe you didn’t know everything. Maybe you didn’t know the whole story. But you knew enough. You knew she was afraid. You knew something was wrong. You knew the room had gone quiet for a reason. And you still stood there. Seven men. Seven fucking men. And nobody said: STOP. One word. That’s all. One word. One fucking word. And maybe the whole night would’ve sounded different. ⸻ [CHORUS — EXPLOSIVE] WHERE WERE YOU? When she needed somebody? WHERE WERE YOU? When her voice disappeared? WHERE WERE YOU? When every man in that room had a choice? You call yourselves brothers? BROTHERS DON’T WATCH. Brothers don’t look away. Brothers don’t protect the man just because he’s one of them. ⸻ [VERSE III — RAPID, FRAGMENTED] I’ve heard every excuse. “I didn’t want trouble.” “I didn’t know what was happening.” “I thought she was okay.” “It’s not my place.” Not your place? Then what the fuck is your place? When somebody is drowning do you need a fucking invitation to throw them a rope? When somebody screams do you need subtitles? When somebody says no do you need a fucking lawyer to explain the word? No. You knew. You fucking knew. And that’s what keeps me awake. Not just what they did. What we allowed. ⸻ [BREAK — MUSIC DROPS OUT] Because here’s the part nobody wants to hear. I’m not different from you. I’m a man. I’ve laughed at jokes I should’ve stopped. I’ve stayed quiet when I should’ve spoken. I’ve watched things happen and told myself: “Someone else will deal with it.” And maybe that’s the disease. Maybe that’s how it survives. Not seven monsters. Not one monster. But thousands of ordinary people deciding that somebody else will be brave. ⸻ [FINAL BUILD — VOICE BREAKING] So no. I’m not going to tell you I’m one of the good ones. I’m not asking for applause. I’m asking myself the question that fucking terrifies me: If I had been there… would I have acted? Would I? Would you? Because it’s easy to say yes from a safe room years after the fact. It’s easy to be brave when the danger is already gone. But when the door is closed… When someone is crying… When everyone else is silent… What do you do? ⸻ [FINAL CHORUS — SHOUTED] YOU STAND UP. YOU SPEAK. YOU BREAK THE SILENCE. YOU DON’T LOOK AWAY. Because being a man isn’t about being the strongest person in the room. It’s about refusing to let someone weaker stand alone in it. ⸻ [OUTRO — WHISPER] Seven men. One woman. And a room full of silence. I wasn’t there. But I’m here now. And if I ever see it happen… I swear to God… I won’t be silent.
