New Addicts-Veins of my Hometown
[Screamed/Shouted] I’m tearing in from the dead edge of town, winter sun bleeding out, going down. Headlights shaking on a cracked-up road, staring through a grease-stained diner window like a ghost. Yeah, I’m choking on the things I should’ve left by now, and the things that still got their claws in my mouth. But listen— I swear to God I’ll survive tonight. My head won’t lock in, won’t stay still— so I burn another pointless loop around the (north side hills.) Where the smoke from busted engines hangs over cheap rent and broken neon signs, and the night coughs black through the (ribs of this town.) Hours crawl straight through my chest. I’m sick of wasting breath. (Sick of wasting time.) Thirty minutes later I’m screaming toward the downtown lights— and I don’t even know why I’m still alive in this place tonight. The Underground died years ago. Dust on the stage we once go You gotta shove these thoughts right out of your skull— (RIGHT OUT OF YOUR SKULL)— (and I try and try and try and try..) [bridge] Something got wasted here. Something old got drained dry. Or maybe that’s just me. the Bars are dead. the Doors are locked. it drives me mad it makes me shocked And there’s nobody left but me and the streetlights in the veins of my hometown. I’ve said too much already... It just doesn’t care! [bridge] Something got wasted here. Something old got drained dry.
