Special relationship, suffering shared, Two egos joining weakness and calling that care. But His way is very different. He does not understand suffering. When He relates through me, He does not join in pain. Healing pain ain't accomplished by entering the delusion, Trying to lighten it by sharing the confusion. Make no mistake: the ego always empathizes to weaken, and to weaken is always to attack. So I sit quietly by, let the Holy Spirit relate through me. Empathize with strength, gain in strength, not in weakness. [Hook] Step gently aside, let healing be done for you. Step gently aside, let the Spirit relate through you. I don't wanna join in weakness, I wanna witness what is true. I am not alone. He is here. I don't have to interfere. Step gently aside. Let Him do what He came to do. [Verse 2] My part is only to remember: I choose neither to hurt it nor to heal it in my own way. I do not know what healing is. All I learned of empathy came from the past. And there's nothing from the past that I would keep. Don't use empathy to make the past real and so perpetuate it. That's subtle. The ego loves to say: "I know what you need. I know what you're feeling. Let me tell you what I see." But humility is strength when I finally admit: I do not know. He does know. That's the shift. I cannot know how to respond to what I do not understand. You are the learner; He the Teacher. Do not confuse your role with His. Offer your empathy to Him. It's His perception and His strength that I would share. [Hook] Step gently aside, let healing be done for you. Step gently aside, let the Spirit relate through you. [Verse 3] The ego picks certain problems, certain people, then joins with what it thinks it understands. And it never joins except to strengthen itself. But I don't want the triumph of weakness to be the gift I offer to my brother. The unredeemed cannot redeem, yet they have a Redeemer. Attempt to teach Him not. True empathy is of Him Who knows what it is. Let Him use my capacity for strength, and not for weakness. He will not desert me. Let me desert not Him. No fixing. No managing. No private little plan. No deciding what salvation has to look like. I can listen. I can follow. I can let Him reinterpret. [Bridge - beat drops] Keep but one thought in mind. I am not alone, and I would not intrude the past upon my Guest. I have invited Him, and He is here. I need do nothing except not to interfere. [Silence] That's it. [Verse 4] The meaning of love is lost in any relationship that looks to weakness and hopes to find love there. The power of love, which is its meaning, lies in the strength of God that hovers over it and blesses it silently with healing wings. Let this be. Don't substitute my "miracle" for His. Only the Holy Spirit recognizes foolish needs as well as real ones. No needs will long be left unmet if I leave them all to Him Whose function is to meet them. That's His function, not mine. Let that breathe again: That's His function, not mine. What I give through Him is for the whole Sonship, not for part of it. So enter every relationship. Bless it for me. Take the secret needs, the specialness, the way I think it ought to be. Leave Him His function. He will fulfill it. Step gently aside and stop dragging in the past.
