Thundercrown

[Verse 1] Under the fig-tree shade, my darling, Your name hangs ripe in the heat. I wore a paper crown of oranges, You laughed and stole my seat. The sea kept time with our ankle bells, Our feet in the dust and foam. I swore you’d stay till the moon was bone, You said, “I never go home.” [Pre-Chorus] O love, be quick The sun is taking names O love, be quick Before the sky turns flames [Chorus] Crown me in summer Crown me in light Hold me like thunder Hold me tonight Crown me in summer Say I’m your own Kiss me in fire And don’t let go [Verse 2] We wrote on the market wall at noon, With fig juice on our hands. You drew my face in a burst of sand, Then laughed at my solemn plans. The lemons split in the market bowl, The honey ran down slow. I caught your sleeve when the bell rang out, You pulled away like smoke. [Pre-Chorus] O love, be quick The hour is at the gate O love, be quick The tide will not wait [Chorus] Crown me in summer Crown me in light Hold me like thunder Hold me tonight Crown me in summer Say I’m your own Kiss me in fire And don’t let go [Bridge] If winter comes with its iron teeth, I’ll still taste peach on your tongue. If the years pull us into their sleep, I’ll wake you, one by one. [Final Chorus] Crown me in summer Crown me in light Hold me like thunder Hold me tonight Crown me in summer Say I’m your own Kiss me in fire And don’t let go
