(Verse 1) Now Adam knew Eve, and a son they did bring They called him Cain, the first harvest king Then Abel was born, a keeper of sheep While the shadows of promise were starting to creep Cain brought of the fruit, a gift for the Lord But Abel brought fatlings, a better reward. (Chorus) The Lord had respect for the offering of one But the heart of the other, He chose to shun "If you do well," said the Lord to the man "Will you not be accepted, fulfilling the plan? But if you do evil, sin waits at the door And its desire is for you, forevermore." (Verse 2) Then Cain spoke to Abel, his brother so dear They went to the field, when the silence was near And Cain rose up high, with a hand full of spite And he struck down his brother, extinguishing light The ground cried aloud, for the blood on the sod And the voice of the brother, was heard by his God. (Bridge) "Where is your brother?" the Lord asked of Cain "Am I my brother's keeper?" he cried out in pain A fugitive now, to wander the earth To hide from the presence, of the place of his birth A mark on his forehead, a sign for his dread That no man should strike him, or wish he were dead. (Outro) He built a great city, and called it by name For his son, Enoch, to carry the flame The line of the fallen, the struggle of men Begins in the city, and echoes again And the calling on God, it started to grow In the days of the wandering, so long ago.
