[Verse 1] When the road goes hard on me And my hands come up empty I do not look down for help I look beyond what I can see When the weight starts pressing in And the night won't let me breathe I hear mercy in the dark Like a Father calling me [Pre-Chorus] You are steady when I shake You are strength I cannot make Every trial bows to grace Every wound finds a safe place [Chorus] Friends in high places Friends in high places Grace for my trouble Mercy for my weakness Friends in high places Friends in high places God, You hold me up When the earth won't keep me [Verse 2] Not in gold or open doors Not in hands that fade away Not in favors, not in fear Not in things that break and change You are shelter in the storm You are bread when I am dry When the valley takes my name You still call me by my life [Pre-Chorus] You are steady when I shake You are strength I cannot make Every trial bows to grace Every wound finds a safe place [Chorus] Friends in high places Friends in high places Grace for my trouble Mercy for my weakness Friends in high places Friends in high places God, You hold me up When the earth won't keep me [Bridge] When the fire comes close You do not let go When the tears run deep You are still my hope In tribulation You remain my song By Your hand I'm carried I can carry on [Final Chorus] Friends in high places Friends in high places Grace for my trouble Mercy for my weakness Friends in high places Friends in high places God, You hold me up When the earth won't keep me Friends in high places Friends in high places Your strength is with me And Your love will keep me
