[Verse 1] I’ve heard them speak with confident tone Declaring skies are clear While storms are brewing deep inside The things they will not hear They dress their doubts in golden words And call the darkness light But David sang his broken psalms And wept all through the night [Verse 2] Isaiah saw the Lord Most High And trembled at the sight He didn’t boast about the glow Or bask in borrowed light He said, “Woe is me, I am undone” And that became his throne Not leverage over other men But mercy carved in bone [Chorus] Come as you are, not as you wish Bring what is real and true The God who made the morning stars Can handle all of you Don’t climb the ladder just to say You’ve touched a higher place The ones who truly saw His face Fell broken in His grace [Verse 3] So let the Psalmist be your guide Name the wolf and then draw near Not performing in the sanctuary But honest in your fear For lament is not the lack of faith It’s faith that knows the way That names the dark before the dawn And walks into the day [Chorus] Come as you are, not as you wish Bring what is real and true The God who made the morning stars Can handle all of you Don’t climb the ladder just to say You’ve touched a higher place The ones who truly saw His face Fell broken in His grace [Bridge] Paul had a vision he concealed Fourteen years of holy silence John fell down before the throne That’s the shape of true reliance Not “I have been where you have not” Not currency for the crowd The burning bush burns off your shoes Before it speaks aloud [Final Chorus] Come as you are, not as you wish Bring what is real and true The God who made the morning stars Can handle all of you Don’t climb the ladder just to say You’ve touched a higher place The ones who truly saw His face Fell broken in His grace [Outro] Come broken, come honest, come low That’s where the river flows Come broken, come honest, come low That’s where the river flows Come weary, come empty, come low That’s where the river flows Come broken, come honest, come low That’s where the river flows
