Touch the Skye (SubtleNoise cover)

She perches on a golden bar, Bathed in light from distant stars, Feathers shining, soft and tame, Touched by hands that never stay. The walls all shimmer, but they’re still walls, She hears the wild birds outside call. She closes her eyes when the night grows still, And dreams of skies beyond the hill… Inside the gilded cage, she sings, Dreams of air beneath her wings. Safe and silent, dressed in gold, Trading wild for what she’s told. Oh, freedom calls beyond her sight, A wind she aches to ride tonight. The sky outside is blue and wide, Sparrows twist, they dart, they dive. Alive and free, their flight unplanned, They own the wind, they own the land. She once had wings that chased the sun, Before the gilded life had begun. Inside the gilded cage, she sings, Dreams of air beneath her wings. Safe and silent, dressed in gold, Trading wild for what she’s told. Oh, safety tastes like bitter ash, Hopes fade, just dreams of the past. Does anyone out there still see her? Do they envy, or revere her? Her voice breaks out, a trembling cry, For one more chance to touch the sky. To leap means pain, to stay means peace, To fly means losing what she keeps. But every bird must choose her way, To soar, or sing her soul away. Inside the gilded cage, she sings, Dreams of air beneath her wings. Safe no more, she spreads them wide, And lifts into the open sky. Yeah, the open sky… Oh, she flies…
