Pocketful of Speed

[Verse 1] Your pink dress skips past the garden gate Brown hair bouncing as we wander late Little paws keep time beside your shoes You choose the path; I follow where you choose [Pre-Chorus] A leaf turns over, you point and grin The whole small afternoon folds us in [Chorus] Come along, little friend, round the bend Every puddle’s a place to pretend You and me, taking turns to lead Two bright hearts with a pocketful of speed Come along, little friend, stay near Your soft nose says the world is here [Verse 2] At the corner, you share your cracker crumbs He sits so sweetly till the sparrow comes You laugh and chase the ribbon on his collar He circles back, a little bit more eager [Bridge] When the day grows quiet, you both sit down A warm hand resting on a furry crown No grand adventure, no faraway sea Just one good walk—and you beside me [Chorus] Come along, little friend, round the bend Every puddle’s a place to pretend You and me, taking turns to lead Two bright hearts with a pocketful of speed Come along, little friend, stay near Your soft nose says the world is here [Outro] Pink hem sways, little paws slow One last look before we go
