[Intro] [Verse 1] Down in a village under southern skies You saw the struggle in my mother's eyes You already had four kids of your own But you didn't let us face the world alone! Me and my brother, we were lost and torn But inside your house, a brand new hope was born You took the pieces and you made them fit You lit a fire and you tended it! [Pre-Chorus 1] We packed the bags to leave the past behind Escaping the ex-wife, leaving her out of mind Up to the mountains where the air was clear You built a fortress to chase away the fear! Yeeeah [Chorus] Thank you, step dad, for the name I wear! You didn't have to, but you took the stand Raised us like your own with a guiding hand! Thank you, step dad, for the love and care! Yeah, step dad, it was only three years long But step dad, you're the hero of this song! [Verse 2] No blood connection but you signed the line You gave us your name, said, "These boys are mine." The house was alive with the rock and the jazz You showed me the soul that a good record has! I'd bring home the pop-punk, the fast heavy beat You’d turn up the volume and tap your feet You embraced all the energy, shared in the noise Building a musical bridge to your boys! [Pre-Chorus 2] Yeah, we packed the bags to leave the past behind Escaping the ex-wife, leaving her out of mind Up to the mountains where the air was clear You built a fortress to chase away the fear! Let's go! [Chorus] Thank you, step dad, for the name I wear! You didn't have to, but you took the stand Raised us like your own with a guiding hand! Thank you, step dad, for the love and care! Yeah, step dad, it was only three years long But step dad, you're the hero of this song! [Bridge] Then the surgery failed, and the lights went out... Leaving us drowning in the sorrow and doubt. Three short years! It wasn't enough time! But you gave me the mountain I needed to climb! You gave me the strength! You gave me the flame! AND I WILL ALWAYS BE PROUD TO CARRY YOUR NAME! [Chorus] Thank you, step dad, for the name I wear! You didn't have to, but you took the stand Raised us like your own with a guiding hand! Thank you, step dad, for the love and care! Yeah, step dad, it was only three years long But step dad, you're the hero of this song! [Outro] Thank you, step dad! Yeah, thank you, step dad! I still carry the name.
