As if in a dream he saw himself making his way towards the place where she lay. The doors to the cabin were slid shut. She was cocooned inside and he was lost outside. Nature set about her task with benign delight. Lightning and thunder quickened the fragile body through every available portal. Every sense was wakened and excited in certainty. She and the ship were one. They were tingling, energised for the final breakthrough. And it came so gently. As she always knew it would. She knew the story. She knew the night and how it must be. Nature was at her fiercest, but she was not fearful. In her bubble she was naked and ready for what life would bring -- its irresistible ending -- its bridge to forever, a bridge to sweet oblivion. Certain and sure into the exquisite touch of bliss. She gathered all the past she could conjure and offered it unjudged to the future. But never Forgotten as was their due driven by forlorn hope and understanding He sailed because he must Remembering how that ritual had first brought him to her long ago All the way he talked with her Calling her name Silently on to the wind that churned the waves and shore reminding him of the chill which lived inside lacuna days fractured like new the crevice his tongue was searching telling him that the space was huge irrepressible with no intervention and that nature could not abide an empty space but surely that was ‘human nature
