The philosophers are counting; They’d like to think they know . But there ain’t no rhyme or reason When the fault lines start to show I’ve been picking up stray feathers In hopes the wind may blow … The west at best, or the east, at least .. Or where e’er you choose to go. Everything will change Or stay this way forever; Either way, I wouldn’t notice…. The high tides turning tail now ; Their waves walk with the moon . The fiddler finds that high note And all the ladies swoon. The creature in his scaled suit - He howls at the lagoon …. Misunderstood ; not bad, nor good; Just another sailor’s tune. Everything will change Or stay this way forever; Either way, I wouldn’t notice….. My ladies gone out dancing, But I broke my blue suede shoes. The rock stars robbed rebellion- The kids all sing on cue; And on my 27th birthday - Found myself on the news … The soul , I sold, it took its toll; At least the listeners amused . Everything will change Or stay this way forever; Either way, I wouldn’t notice….. The devil’s in the heartland ; He’s smoking in the pews His seat reserved beside me ; It’s one hell of a view . The preacher’s daughter , at the altar Asks, “ may I be excused?” He’s got the scent, she’s gotta pay the rent; Buddy, we’ve all got our dues . Everything will change ; It’s been this way forever ; Either way it plays, God help us.
