© 2026 J.G. Argo. All rights reserved. THE EPIC OF GILGAMESH Voyage III Beyond All Maps. Πάθει μάθος. (Through suffering, wisdom.) --- [Ancient Invocation – Akkadian] Ša naqba īmuru... (He who saw the Deep...) Ša kalāma īdu... (He who knew all things...) Gilgāmeš... šar Urukki. (Gilgamesh... King of Uruk.) --- [Narrator] Before history remembered heroes... Before kingdoms carved their names into stone... There was Uruk. Its king believed no force could humble him. Until death claimed the only man who ever made him human. --- [Verse I – King of Uruk] I stood above the walls of Uruk, A giant crowned in cedar light. The rivers bent beneath my footsteps, No hand could challenge all my might. The people feared the sound I carried, A ruler forged of pride and flame. I built my glory into stone... Yet no one loved my name. --- [Pre-Chorus] What is a crown When silence wears it? What is power If no heart shares it? --- [Chorus] I conquered rivers. I conquered kings. I touched the heights Where eagles sing. Yet every empire Turns to sand. Time closes Every hand. If legends fall... If stars grow dim... Tell me... Who remembers them? --- [Verse II – Enkidu] From the wild A stranger came. Hair like forests, Eyes untamed. He did not kneel. He did not flee. He stood before me... Equal. Our fists became thunder. The earth became witness. Then laughter broke Where hatred lived. Together we shattered monsters. Together we crossed the mountains. Brother... Was a word I never knew Until it wore his face. --- [Pre-Chorus II] For the first time... The king disappeared. Only the man remained. --- [Chorus II] I conquered rivers. I conquered kings. But friendship Changed everything. No throne could give What one soul gave. A brother's love... Beyond the grave. --- [Verse III – The Death of Enkidu] The strongest voice Became a whisper. The brightest fire Turned into ash. I held his hand... Until it answered Only with silence. Fear entered me Like winter. Not for him... For myself. If death could steal Enkidu... One day... It would come for me. --- [Verse IV – The Empty Throne] The halls that once held thunder Now whisper in the dark. The victories I carved in stone Could never heal this mark. I wore the crown of Uruk, But it felt like borrowed gold. For the first time in my life... I feared the story growing old. I searched beyond the mountains, Beyond the edge of known. Not for kingdoms... Not for glory... But to escape the fate That comes for everyone. --- [Bridge – The Long Journey] So I crossed The edge of the world. Beyond mountains. Beyond darkness. Beyond every map A king had ever drawn. Searching... For the one man Who escaped death. --- [Bridge II – Utnapishtim] He spoke of ancient waters. A flood That swallowed kingdoms. A vessel Sealed with pitch. Living creatures... Two by two... Gathered within. Birds released Across an endless sea. The oldest stories... Leave the longest echoes. Yet even the survivor Could not free me From mortality. --- [Ancient Chant] Ša naqba īmuru... (He who saw the Deep...) Balāṭu... (Life...) Mūtu... (Death...) --- [Verse V – The Lost Gift] One final hope Lay beneath the waters. A living plant. A second youth. I reached the bottom. I held forever Within my hands. But while I rested... A serpent came. The earth reclaimed What I could never keep. --- [Enkidu's Echo – Spoken by Another Voice] (A distant voice, ancient and calm) "Friend... Do not chase the endless sky. The life you lived was never meant to last forever. What we gave each other... Was already beyond death." --- [Final Chorus – The Awakening] I conquered rivers. I conquered stone. But none of us Walk this world alone. The walls will fall. The crowns will rust. Every kingdom Returns to dust. Yet love survives. Kindness remains. We live forever... In the lives We choose to change. --- [Outro] I returned to Uruk. Not immortal... Not victorious... But awake. The journey I sought Was never beyond the horizon. It waited... Within grief. Ša naqba īmuru... (He who saw the Deep...) And found... The deepest abyss... Was within himself. Beyond All Maps. Πάθει μάθος.
