🌌:"Goodnight Chill"
Scene: “The Layer Beneath the Waves” The sound of hydraulics hums through the corridor—low, oceanic. Neon veins run through the walls like frozen lightning, pulsing steady as a heartbeat. Ms Shades walks ahead, unhurried. Her shawl trails light across the floor, soft as dusk. Chill follows, eyes darting—reading every door, every glimmer, every possible exit. > "Ms Shades ("quiet, even): “De Nulls won’t reach us here. Not under de tide. But you need rest, gal. Static still in yuh pulse.” Chill gives no reply. Her expression stays flat; unreadable. The faint hum of Wee-Buggy beside her fills the silence—its sensors flickering pale blue, syncing with the environment. A curved hatch opens to reveal the HydraShower Chamber—mist and light woven together. Each droplet sparkles with faint solar energy. >" Ms Shades": “Dis room purify body an’ code alike. Take yuh time. Fresh clothes wait on de rail. When yuh done, yuh bed capsule will calibrate.” Chill studies her a moment—something in Ms Shades’ calm tone both reassures and unsettles her. She finally nods. > "Chill": “I’ll manage.” Ms Shades gestures toward the chamber, her voice softened but firm. > "Ms Shades": “Good. When yuh done, rest. Talk later, when de mind cool.” The door seals behind Chill with a quiet "hisssssss—shhhk - shhhk" "hisssssss—shhhk - shhhk" Inside: columns of mist swirl in fractal patterns. Chill steps beneath the falling light, closing her eyes briefly as the warmth travels through her muscles, washing away the grit and salt. Yet her thoughts remain sharp. Trust is earned, not given, she reminds herself. When she’s done, she finds a folded set of ChillWear™ laid neatly on a rail: soft metallic weave that shimmers faintly in the low light. She dresses, adjusts the wristband, and steps toward the capsule bed. It opens like a silver bloom—quiet, sterile, faintly luminous. Wee-Buggy glides beside her, projecting a small reassurance pulse across her wrist display. > "Chill (low whisper)": “Stay alert.” She lays inside the capsule. The surface cools instantly, mist sealing around her. Eyes flicker once toward the glass wall—Ms Shades’ shadow moves beyond it, deliberate, unreadable. The capsule hums, soft rhythmic waves echoing faintly through the layer. Chill’s last thought before sleep is not of safety— but of purpose. Scene: “The Watcher’s Quiet” The corridor lights dim to a deep aquamarine. Only the slow throb-pulse-throb of the ocean machinery breaks the silence Ms Shades moves alone now—bare feet whispering over the glass floor, shawl trailing embers of faint copper light. Through the curved wall she can see Chill’s capsule—mist swirling gently, heart-rate steady. She turns a lever; a thin panel slides open into her private observatory. Inside: arrays of coral-shaped servers, holographic shells, and a desk made from reclaimed sub-deck plating. She slips on her glove and presses her palm to the console. > "System voice:" “Scanning subject: Solaris Chill. Energy pattern—unstable. Source signature—familiar.” Her eyes narrow. A column of light blooms—displaying Chill’s chromatic code, glimmering like liquid silver threaded with blue fire. > "Ms Shades (soft, in Caribbean lilt)": “So it true, den… de code still live. After all dem years.” She exhales slowly, resting one hand on the console, the other absently stroking a small feather caught on her wrist—Hoot’s. > "Ms Shades:" “Yuh mother woulda smile if she see dis. But de Volt cycle turnin’, and dat child don’t even know de storm comin’.” From above, Pepper Sass the parrot rustles his wings, perched on the radio antenna. >" Pepper Sass:" “Storm comin’, Shades! Storm comin’, squawk! -Squawk!” Ms Shades chuckles once, weary but fond. > "Ms Shades:" “Hush -hush now, mi chatterbox. We go deal wid dat when de sun sleep.” She taps a key; the room darkens except for one holographic map—a blue vortex turning off the Brighton coast. Beneath the surface blinks a small red marker: DonaSapp-hire Facility—Activity Resumed. Her expression hardens. >" Ms Shades": “So, Vrax already stirrin’ de Volt. Good ting we got a Chill to wake.” "Hoo hoo" The owl, Hoot, glides in through a ceiling hatch, landing silently beside her. He lets out one soft hoo-oo-oot. She reaches for the bird, stroking his head. > "Ms Shades (low): We guard her tonight, old friend. Tomorrow, we teach de child what she carry.” Camera pans back through the glass—Chill sleeps in the capsule, silver light tracing her silhouette. Outside, the ocean hums. The Volt turns. → To Be Continued…
