V6

Verse 1 She holds a rose like it might explain something. The stem is green and ordinary until it isn’t. A thorn finds the softest part of her finger and goes in without asking. She does not pull away. Chorus 1 She watches the blood gather, then fall. One drop. Another. Her pupils open wide as if the small wound is a window. She stands completely still. The room can wait. The rose can wait. She is busy looking at the only thing that feels honest. (mhm) Verse 2 She turns her hand in the light and studies the bead of red as if it were a language she used to speak. It stings. The sting is clean. Not like memory. Not like being left. Not like all the quiet kinds of pain that never show on skin. This one has a place. This one has a color. This one ends at the edge of a finger and still it fills the whole afternoon. Chorus 2 She only feels free when it hurts. Not happy. Not saved. Just briefly unchained from the fog she carries behind her ribs. The thorn did in one second what kindness never managed. It made her present. It made her real. It made the body hers again for as long as the sting lasts. Verse 3 People would tell her to rinse it, to put the rose down, to stop staring. They would not understand that the staring is the point. That the drop running toward her palm is the first true sentence she has heard all day. She is not performing. She is recognizing herself in a small, bright leak. Bridge The rose is still beautiful. That is the cruel part. Something can be soft and still cut you. Something can be given as a gift and still draw blood. She knows that story too well. She just never expected to feel grateful for the sharp part. Chorus 3 She stands frozen with a rose in her fist and a ruined fingerprint. Blood ticks onto the floor in a rhythm slower than a heart. Her eyes stay wide. Her mouth stays shut. She only feels free when it hurts — when the pain is simple, visible, finished in a minute and still somehow bigger than every nameless ache she cannot hold up to the light. Outro She does not drop the flower. She does not look away. She watches herself bleed like a woman finally finding a door that opens inward. The freedom will not last. She knows that too. When the sting fades, she will be locked inside herself again. Until then she stays very still and lets the rose tell the truth. (aha)
