The Gathering of the Fleet

In the cold silence of deep space a colossal starship drifted alone. Its dark hull stretched across the void like an ancient fortress. Far in the distance countless smaller vessels began to appear. One by one they emerged from the darkness and moved toward the great ship in slow organized streams. Thousands of craft approached from every direction. Their lights cut through the black like faint stars. The massive vessel opened its enormous hangar bays. One after another the smaller ships entered the glowing chambers. Some moved with precision while others followed in tight formation. The great ship remained still as it received them all. Its engines hummed with a deep steady resonance that traveled through the hull. Inside the hangars the smaller vessels found their places and powered down. The fleet was being gathered. Soon the great ship would carry them across the stars. For now it waited in the emptiness while the last of the vessels completed their approach. The void around it remained cold and silent.
