Beyond the curtains in my room The morning light is coming through I still can’t quite get myself to move But I’m not tired enough to sleep I think I’ll make myself some coffee I’ll open up the window for a while For now, I guess that’s all I need I’ll just do whatever I can I’ll start again from here today And take just one small step at a time If I can feel a little lighter Then I know that will be enough Even if I cannot make myself smile Even if I still don’t know what to choose If I can make it just a little farther Than the place I reached yesterday My favorite cup is sitting there The flowers have all dried where they stand Inside the book I never finished The bookmark waits there all alone I slowly tie the laces on my shoes I tell my reflection I’m ready to go And when I finally open up the door I feel connected to the world again All of the things I couldn’t do I used to count them late at night And every time I counted all of them I felt as small as a little mouse I felt like I was all alone With no one there beside me I’ll start again from here today And take just one small step at a time If I can feel a little lighter Then I know that will be enough Even if I never find the answer Even if nothing seems to change today I know that every storm will pass someday That’s one thing I’ve learned along the way
